I think you do a fine job of delineating the background/universe in each story. For me, it has usually been some months & many other books between sessions with this series, but it takes very little to remind me exactly where I am. Of course, that could be because A Boy & His Dragon is one of my go-to books when I need a mental cuddle, but I took particular notice of the world-building as I read A Dandelion for Tulip as the differences between our reality & theirs were gently presented, not thuds to the head. I'm finding the same as I read the Firebird stories. The history is there without awkwardness. Really, I don't know how you manage it, because it comes across as effortless.
